Local property taxes are assessed on a base of 100% of True Tax Value or approximately market value. Current rates for adjacent townships available on request. Local property taxes are assessed on the depreciated value of business personal property. Inventory is generally exempt from property taxes.

County Adjusted Gross Income Tax equals 1.5% of personal income with the funds used for local property tax relief. This tax is paid by individuals.

State sales tax of 7% on all retail sales – food products and certain other items and wholesale sales are exempt. Purchase of utilities in support of manufacturing may be exempt from sales tax if certain criteria are met.

The state income tax for individuals is 3.4%. The state adjusted gross income tax for corporations is 7.5% with a scheduled decrease in steps to 6.5% by June 30, 2015.

Recreation

The Cloverdale Town Park provides a fully-equipped, fenced in playground and family picnic area. Under development is a community sports park for team sports. Located six miles west is Lieber State Recreation Area, adjoining Cagles Mill Lake, widely known for camping, hiking and boating activities. Six other state parks are within a one-hour drive. One and one-half miles west of Cloverdale is Clover Meadows Golf Course, an 18-hole regulation golf course. Two other golf courses are located in the county.

Ten miles north, DePauw University offers NCAA Division III men’s and women’s sports and a wide variety of cultural activities from art to theater. The Putnam County Library is located in a recently enlarged facility in Greencastle. The Putnam County Playhouse is well known for its Summer Stock theater schedule.

Less than one hour away, Indianapolis hosts a wide range of amenities including the arts, concerts, museums, professional sports, and theater.
